GLO settings for mobile internet Nigeria

Is is quite difficult, if not impossible, for some phone users to get connected to Globacom wap or Globacom GPRS internet. Simply because not all phones accept the automatic configuration SMS message that Glo Nigeria sends.

The website of Globacom Nigeria does not show the required settings, but I was able to retrieve them through some other phone users;

WAP Settings;

  • Name: Glogwap
  • Homepage: http://wap.gloworld.com/
  • Bearer: GPRS
  • Access Point (APN): glogwap
  • IP Address: 10.100.98.22
  • Username: wap
  • Password: wap
  • Session Mode: permanent
  • Connection Security: off
  • Authentication type: normal
  • Login type: Automatic

MMS Settings

  • Name: Glomms
  • Homepage: http://mms.gloworld.com/mmsc
  • Bearer: GPRS
  • Access Point (APN): glomms
  • IP Address: 10.100.82.4
  • Username: mms
  • Session Mode: permanent
  • Authentication type: normal

It works now fine for me, except on my HTC phone which is running Window Mobile. It seems until now not possible to get Glo Nigeria to work on my Windows Mobile powered HTC Touch smart phone.

MTN settings for Internet Nigeria

It can be quite difficult to configure your Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.0 phone to work with the MTN GPRS or MTN Internet network  in Nigeria. I have a HTC Touch Cruise and Samsun Omnia and both were difficult or impossible to connect to the internet here in Nigeria, but now this has improved!

I have figured it out now, and it is even simpler than expected…

All you need to do is;

  • Add a Connection named MTN
  • Make sure the modem is of the GPRS type
  • Use the access point name: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
  • Username : web
  • Password : web
  • All other settings are to be left on the default values

Do NOT use any proxy settings, there are some websites that advice you to do so, but I have not been able to make any connection when the proxy is active.

UMTS / 3.5G / EGDE / HSPA

Some people have requested for additional information to enable 3.5G or EDGE / UMTS speed settings. But with MTN this is very easy; those settings are identical. Your phone will go for the best connection possible the moment you enter into a zone with high speed network coverage. The moment when I enter into the Lagos / LEKI area my phone switches over to 3G network. Enabling me to use video converstations, etc. The internet speed is also a lot faster, browsing on my relative small screen is almost like at home in the Netherlands!

The MMS settings were also requested, so please find them here below;

MMS

Set your account or profile name to MTN MMS;

  • Access Point Name (APN) : web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
  • Service Centre Address : http://10.199.212.8/servlets/mms
  • IP Address : 10.199.212.2
  • Port : 9201 (for WAP) or 8080 (for HTML)
  • Username : web
  • Password : web

That is all you need to do, the rest is done by the phone again. You might, depending on your credits you are willing to spend, want to prevent automatic download of all content. Since it is you who will pay for the data transfer after the free reception of the new MMS message header.

Unfortunately it remains impossible to send MMS messages to the Netherlands or other European countries, but I am confident that once this will be possible also.
